ABOUT MYSELF AND MY AIM OF BREEDING

I am a beginner among breeders, but the miniature poodle (black and brown) has been a part of my life since the end of 1960’s. As a teenager our family poodle was my best friend to whom I told all my secrets. Even if that dog was never shown in dog shows, I was very proud about taking care of his beautiful black coat in the best possible way. He was always groomed in the well known salon Trimmer in Helsinki.

In the 1970’s obedience trials and dog shows were often organized at the same time in the same place.

I always admired the clever poodles in the obedience field. I dreamed about having such clever and beautiful dogs myself. This is still my dream. For me it is not enough that my poodles are beautiful, they should have good health and temperament including good nerves (important that they are gun safe), they should be able to handle stressful situations (be able to work and stay calm), have desire to play with their owner (important for achieving a good dog-owner relationship and when training a dog), they must be social (both with humans and other dogs) and not be too tough nor too shy. These properties are necessary not only in different dog sports, but also for a pleasant every day life as a family companion dog. And I still believe that every dog, also every family dog, should be trained to behave in a nice way – well behaving dogs make ordinary people more tolerant towards dog keeping in our society. Today many poodles are sufferng from different health problems. In breeding one has always to make difficult choices. There are no completely healthy lines anymore. I promise I will do my best out of the current situation.

Today we have, in addition to miniature poodles, one Australian shepherd in our family. This dog has the most wonderful temperament and we plan to breed Aussies as well in the future.

As a breed the Australian shepherd differs a lot from poodles. The Australians are active working dogs, not suitable to live as pets only. They are very active and they have to work! They require a lot of physical exercise. If you cannot provide them their natural herding work, they have to be trained in obedience, agility, as rescue dogs or something else requiring brain work several times a week, otherwise they get frustrated. A frustrated Aussie easily develops different bad habits, such as barking, destroying furnitures etc. In my breeding I will focus on the temperament and health of the Aussie. The aussie is healthier than the poodle, but the breed has a more complicated temperament. An Aussie with a good temperament is really the best friend you can have! It loves working and training with its owner, and when the evening comes, it will rest with you in the sofa with its head in your knee telling you with a gentle, warm glance in its beautiful, expressive face "I adore you"!

The most important thing for me is that
every puppy will have
a good, understanding and caring home and
an owner that is satisfied with that particular puppy.
